Sponsored by Hawaii International Film Festival
Exciting news! HIFF is safely back in person this year with a focus on honoring the work of local and international creatives while bringing our communities together. This year’s Festival offers an opportunity for those of us in Hawaii to experience and connect with each other and the world through our programs, while continuing to share Hawai’i’s authentic voices and stories on a global scale. At the heart of HIFF41 is a spirit of hope and inspiration and a space for respite and conversation. We hope to draw our audiences in closer, in connection with these films and the creatives behind them.
The 41st edition of the Hawai’i International Film Festival (HIFF), presented by Halekulani, is taking place from November 4 to 14 on Oahu and November 18-21 on neighbor islands with virtual programs streaming from November 4 to 28 nationwide. That means your friends and family on the mainland can also tune in and watch films that are screening here on island. On Oahu, films will be screening in-theaters at the newly renovated Kahala Theater and at Consolidated Ward. Tickets are available on hiff.org.
HIFF41 doubles down on HIFF’s mission to think global and act local by bringing us home and exploring Hawai’i in depth through indigenous voices, environmental issues, and new works from both established and up and coming Pacific creators. Besides WATERMAN, our centerpiece film is the Sundance darling, I WAS A SIMPLE MAN by local filmmaker Christopher Yogi and starring Constance Wu, Steve Iwamoto, Tim Chiou, and Kanoa Goo.
This year’s Made in Hawaii program will showcase 5 features and 26 shorts. This is an incredible number of films and is a sign of Hawaii’s growing local film industry. Creative industries in Hawai‘i are key to rebuilding better, we’re excited to feature many of these films as part of our Competition program, which offers cash prizes totaling $10,000 to these Made in Hawaii filmmakers for the fifth year in a row
In-person seating is limited, go to HIFF.org to reserve your tickets!
