Sponsored by Hawaii Education Association
The Hawaii Education Association (HEA) is celebrating its 100-year anniversary in 2021 by sharing stories of exceptional teachers in our community. Two of those educators are Brooke Gascon-Vea at Kapalama Elementary School and Marc Kawahara at Kalihi Kai Elementary.
Gascon-Vea is currently a curriculum coordinator at Kapalama Elementary School. She was a former participant in Hawaii Education Association’s Teaching As A Career Program which is designed to generate and foster interest in becoming a teacher among high school students.
Kawahara is currently the principal at Kalihi Kai Elementary School and was the teaching mentor while Gascon-Vea was a participant in the TAAC program. Kawahara was her inspiration to become an educator.
HEA’s scholarships are made possible by donations from community members who care about advancing education in Hawaii.
