Created in 2002, Hawaii Optimum Performance was started by Ross Oshiro and Kevin Chang to address the fitness and rehabilitation needs of Hawaii’s youth athletes. With this goal in mind, the two began weekly sports clinics, working hand in hand with various athletic clubs and school programs across Oahu.
Having treated many athletes, specifically female basketball, soccer and volleyball players that have the highest incidence of ACL injuries, Oshiro and Chang started developing programs to reduce the incidence of knee injuries and improve athletic performance. By correcting biomechanical restrictions and incorporating movement efficiency training, they were able to decrease the risk of sports injuries while increasing athletic speed, power and performance.
Today, Hawaii Optimum Performance has become Hawaii’s premiere sports performance training company, offering a number of signature programs for all sports and ages. With the addition of their newest owner, NFL All Pro Defensive End and Pro Bowl MVP Michael Bennett, Hawaii Optimum Performance has become a training destination for professional athletes such as Chad Owens, Manti Teo, Deforest Buckner, Arik Armstead, Danny Shelton, Martellus Bennett, Earl Thomas, Cliff Avril, Jadeveon Clowney and Carlos Munoz.
As the newest partner of Hawaii Optimum Performance, Bennett brings years of experience in performance training and athlete development as a professional football player for the Seattle Seahawks. A graduate of Alief Taylor High School in Houston, Texas, he received a full scholarship to play football at the University of Texas A&M.
After training at Hawaii Optimum Performance during the summer of 2012 with younger brother Martellus Bennett, he went on to lead the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in sacks that season. As a free agent in 2013, he returned to the Seattle Seahawks and led the team in sacks enroute to a 2014 Super Bowl Championship. A team leader on and off the field, Bennett was selected to the 2016 and 2017 NFL Pro Bowl while earning Pro Bowl Defensive MVP in 2016.
Whether you’re a student, professional athlete or fitness enthusiast, Hawaii Optimum Performance’s philosophy remains the same: To provide a systematic training program with an emphasis on functional movement efficiency that is individualized and tailored to help you reach your specific goals. Regardless of age, experience or ability, HOP Training is dedicated to giving you the education, resources and instruction you need to train like a pro.
