Pohai Nani embodies the Aloha Spirit. The 16-acre village is among Hawaii’s top choice for retirement resort-style living, and the community offers a variety of programs and amenities fit for any ohana.

Apartments at Pohai Nani are different from other senior living homes because they are spacious, affordable, month-to-month agreements with large lanais open to plenty of fresh air. Not to mention there are also gorgeous views of the Koʻolau Mountain Range.

Sales Manager Rob Ching says the wait-list for apartments at Pohai Nani ebbs and flows. Currently, there are units ready for move-in, and modified tours and virtual tours are being offered. Touring guests would be screened and would follow proper guidelines of hand-washing, masking and social distancing.

As far as helping residents stay active with exercise and activities, Pohai Nani’s Wellness & Recreation department took the pandemic and restrictions as an opportunity to look at its already well-loved programming and readjust.

“While we had to downsize many of our classes, we are still able to offer some of our existing classes like our strength and balance class and our personal training sessions in our fitness room,” says Tehani Lauer with Pohai Nani.

Pohai Nani now also offers newer classes, like its Zoom exercise class and Zumba class. There’s also a hallway exercise class where residents sit or stand in their apartment doorways and the instructors conduct the class by walking up and down the hall.

As for activities, Pohai Nani also came up with a way for residents to stay occupied and active while staying in their apartments through daily activity bags. Every day, participating residents get a washable Pohai Nani bag filled with the activity for the day.

“Our most popular being the Bingo card that they will use to play for the week,” Lauer says. “They also enjoy the different craft kits and brain games they get in there.”
