HI Now host Jobeth Devera is back in Seattle and taking us to the famous Pike Place Market, where farmers, artisans and small businesses attract millions of visitors every year.
“Pike Place Market is an historic market,” says Amy Wallsmith, marketing director and program development at Pike Place. “The city created us in 1907. The market has handmade crafts, fresh produce, seafood, restaurants and things you can take home that are unique to Seattle.”
Many people know the market as the location of the original Starbucks, the famous gum wall and Rachel and Billy the pig.
With more than 70 eateries to choose from, Jobeth is taking us to some of her favorites. First stop, Pike Place Chowder.

The restaurant is home to Yelp’s #1 Most Popular Dish in the U.S. It was also named America’s #1 Hall-of-Fame chowder cafés and serves 8 varieties of chowder daily. For five years in a row, it was also awarded Best Classic New England Chowder at the annual Chowdafest competition.
Wallsmith says, “Pike Place Chowder has been around since 2003 and their chowder is unbelievable.” Jobeth agrees.
Next stop on the food tour: Le Pichet.
Le Pichet serves up fresh cuisine in a more intimate setting. The most popular dishes at the restaurant are its Charcuterie and roasted chicken.
The name “Le Pichet” means “The Pitcher”, which is the ceramic vessel in which simple, traditional neighborhood restaurants in France serve wine.

One of the newest eateries at the market this year is Joe Chocolate Co.
What started as a trail snack for friends on the Pacific Crest Trail turned into an obsession with crafting delicious and functionally caffeinated chocolate, with a Hawaii flair.
Co-founder Samuel Tanner says the cacao nibs they use for its Roasted Cacao flavor are sourced from Manoa Chocolate in Kailua, Hawaii. Tanner’s mother grew up in Hawaii and is a Kamehameha graduate. He says he wanted to bring a piece of Hawaii to Joe Chocolate.
