Pohai Nani is celebrating 55 years of serving kupuna on Oahu’s Windward side in Kaneohe. HI Now host Kanoe Gibson is with Tish Camero, executive director of the senior living facility, to talk more about its services and the significant milestone.
Pohai Nani provides a full continuum of care, from independent living to assisted living. It offers skilled, long term care and apartments and cottages that look out to the gorgeous Koolau Mountains all the way to Kaneohe Bay. Some of its residents still work and drive, but for those who don’t, transportation to shopping centers and physician offices is provided.
Camero says Pohai Nani’s beautiful grounds and friendly staff are what separates it from other retirement living options. “We have lots of green space, gardens, large beautiful trees and walking paths,” she adds. “We are set back in the community, away from freeway and city noise.” Personally, Camero loves hearing the birds in the trees.

The parents of radio host Michael W. Perry were part of the Pohai Nani ohana for quite some time. The couple loved living in the retirement community and Perry was relieved that they were in great care. Shortly after that, he decided to become Pohai Nani’s spokesperson. “We are lucky to be working with such an amazing man and having him share his story about why Pohai Nani,” Camero says.
