Another Travel Tuesday adventure awaits, and HI Now Host Kanoe Gibson is still on Santa Catalina Island in Los Angeles. This action-packed day is full, including a power snorkeling tour through the sea kelp forest, window shopping in the town of Avalon, and even satisfying her sweet tooth at the local candy store.
But suiting up like a Bond girl was the best part of Kanoe’s day, as she dawned a wetsuit, snorkel and a Diver Propulsion Unit, and hit the clear waters off Casino Point with Diving Catalina. Throughout the 45-minute excursion, Kanoe was able to cover more ground with the handheld scooter than a typical snorkeling tour, traveling 4.5 miles per hour over a 200-yard area. Beautiful marine life was abundant, and the sea kelp forest was unlike anything seen in Hawaiian waters. Sea kelp is one of the fastest growing plants in the world, and circling throughout the plants are calico bass, seniorita fish, opal eye, lobsters, eels, octopus, and even a somewhat frightening surprise from a giant seabass.
