Honoring the Hawaiian tradition of canoe racing 

The tradition of outrigger canoeing in Hawaii dates back generations to the ancient Hawaiians. Today, besides being the state sport, it’s a reminder about our connection to the Hawaiian culture and the ocean. Hawaii’s largest oil refinery, Par Hawaii, is partnering with The Hawaiian Canoe Racing Association (HCRA) and its mission to provide education and instruction in Hawaiian and Polynesian culture through canoeing. Race commissioner Lawrence “Bo” Campos joins tells us more about it, and the 2018 HCRA State Championship Regatta being held Saturday, August 4 at Ke’ehi Lagoon.
