Need a way to cool down on a hot day or just craving something sweet and refreshing? Established in 2008 on the island of Maui by Ululani & David Yamashiro and Brad Edgerton, what started off as a tiny 65-square foot shop in Lahaina eventually evolved into one of the most beloved shave ice shops out there. With multiple locations on Maui including one in Kona, you definitely have options to choose from. In addition to their shave ice treats, Sugar Beach Bake Shop is an extension of the business that is dedicated to handcrafted pastries and desserts.
On top of being the originators of the “new wave” style of shave ice, Ululani’s was recently voted “Maui’s Best Shave Ice” by multiple Hawaii news sources, including Honolulu Magazine.
Part of what makes Ululani’s Shave Ice special is that they make all of their syrups and ice in-house. Their ice is made with ultra-purified water to provide the cleanest taste, and their syrups contain pure cane sugar and premium fruit purees. What’s also unique is that Ululani’s handmakes their own mochi toppings alongside their popular fresh toasted coconut made at their Sugar Beach Bake Shop.
With their famous phrase, “All shave ice is not created equal,” the mission of Ululani’s Shave is to continue serving up fresh, local, handmade ingredients while making a sweet difference in the community. Be on the lookout for new locations popping up throughout the country!
