If you love to brunch, Scratch Kitchen & Meatery located at South Shore Market in Kakaako is becoming a staple! It’s a place that takes comfort food favorites from all over the world and turns them inside out — spinning dishes into unique creations that are just plain delicious. HI Now host Jobeth Devera visited the restaurant to get a taste of the menu.

The restaurant’s executive chef, Brandon Mezurashi, has been cooking in restaurants since he was 17 years old. Mezurashi has always had a passion for food, and he’s now able to pursue his dreams of creating delicious food experiences for people at Scratch Kitchen.

Scratch’s Southern Fried Chicken and Waffles tops the list of one of the customer favorites. The restaurant batters its own chicken, fries it up, and serves the dish with a southern spicy sauce topped with arugula and a homemade Dijon mustard dressing. You can’t miss it!

Other customer favorites include the Milk and Cereal Pancakes! These pancakes will transport you right back to childhood, as the fluffy stack is topped with a heaping helping of fruity pebbles and comes with a glass of special milk syrup to top it all off. Finally, you’ll want to order its Creme Brulee French Toast! Soaked in a secret batter overnight, this dish is soft with a nice crisp from the seared sugar and finished off with fresh fruit.

If you’re looking for something more savory, new on the menu at Scratch is the Kalbi Burger, a marinated burger patty with Kalbi sauce topped with an egg on a sweet roll bun.

Not only does Scratch have good food, but the restaurant also has some delicious crafted cocktails. Looking to wake up? Order the Kimchi Bloody Mary. Or for coffee lovers, try the Good Morning Sunshine! The cocktail is made up of Irish whiskey, cold brew coffee, vodka, and sprinkled with a little bit of cinnamon on top. Scratch is also known for its mimosas, which come with both guava and orange juice.

Scratch Kitchen is open Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. and Saturday – Sunday from 8 a.m. – 9 p.m. Don’t forget to visit for happy hour daily from 3 – 6 p.m.
