Sponsored by Hawaii Gas
It’s good food without the wait! HI Now host Kanoe Gibson is in the kitchen with Chef Felix Tai, who just opened up Chopchop Rotisserie in Waikiki. If you’re craving rotisserie meats with an island twist, it’s a spot you’re not gonna want to sleep on!
At Chopchop Rotisserie, you’ll find spit roasted, island stirred rotisserie meats and veggies that are accented with the local color and flavors of the islands. There are also a number of hot sides made from scratch like mac’ncheese, brussels sprouts and smokey cauliflower. There are also fresh salads and soups available.
Daily specials at Chopchop range from dishes like rotisserie lamb to BBQ ribs. There are even weekly specials that include Taco Tuesdays and Prime Rib Sunday Supper.
All of the sauces and seasonings used there are locally influenced and locally sourced. People are familiar with the taste, but also able to explore more than the flavors offered by the “supermarket” rotisserie chicken.
Currently, Chef Tai is the corporate executive chef for the company behind 12th Ave Grill, Kokohead Cafe and a food manufacturing division. His love for food emanated from Kuala Lumpur, where he was born and raised. There, his parents took him to farmers markets where farmers and fishermen openly sold their harvest. Everything his mother cooked at home was bought fresh from these markets. Growing up with around a number of different cultures and traditions grew his love of food, which eventually turned into a love of cooking.
Chef Tai was the executive chef at the Polynesian Cultural Center’s Pounder Restaurant in the Hukilau Marketplace on the North Shore of Oahu and has won numerous awards. Most recently, he received the Hawaii Restaurant Association Hall of Fame 2019 and Industry’s 2019 Chef of the Year.
