Travel Tuesday with Alaska Airlines: Hit the slopes day or night on Oregon’s tallest peak

Sponsored by Alaska Airlines

It’s a winter wonderland on this Travel Tuesday, and HI Now host Kanoe Gibson is braving the slopes of Oregon’s tallest peak: Mt. Hood! At 7,000 ft. sits the Ski Resort Timberline, originally built as a work project in the 1930’s. It’s now one of the largest ski resorts in the state.

Timberline is the only ski area in North America open year-round for summer and winter activities. The family-friendly ski resort features seven lifts, a 3,000 ft. vertical drop, and 1,400 skiable acres. Not an expert when it comes to hitting the slopes? Timberline offers world class training when it comes to skiing and snowboarding.

Timberline also has the longest ski season in North America. The winter season typically begins early to mid-November and continues through Memorial Day. The Palmer Express high-speed quad lift allows the ski area to operate later into the summer season.

The fun doesn’t stop in the evening. Ski Bowl is the largest night skiing area in North America and is a favorite for visitors and residents alike. While you may be familiar with cosmic bowling, cosmic tubing takes the fun to another level with a party on Mt. Hood!

Tube down a hill surrounded by 600,000 LED lights, laser light shows, black lights, colored lights, and rocking music. The best part? Once you’re downhill, you won’t have to make the trek back up! Just jump on the conveyor lift with your tube and relax all the way to the top!

Tips before you go:
1) Book your tickets ahead of time!
2) Tubers must be at least three years old and 36 inches tall.
3) Tubing tickets are sold in two-hour sessions with 15 min breaks between sessions for grooming.
4) Snow tubes are provided on-site. (Single, double, triple, and even quad tubes!)
5) Layer up! Wear warm socks and waterproof boots.
6) Arrive 20 – 30 minutes prior to your session.

If you love to travel and you haven’t been to Oregon, Alaska Airlines offers non-stop flights from Honolulu!
