Catch your own dinner in the waters of Nahalem Bay

Have you ever gone crabbing? HI Now host Kanoe Gibson is on another Travel Tuesday adventure in Oregon, this time at Jetty Fishery on the waters of Nahalem Bay.

Crabbing on the Oregon Coast is an adventure that you have to experience to truly understand. From the first time you pull your crab ring up out of the water, you are immediately hooked! Like fishing, crabbing is a sport for the outdoor enthusiast, however crabbing reaches out to the less technical side of catching dinner. Whether you’re a first time crabber or a veteran sports crabber, there is equal opportunity for success!

Jetty Fishery provides the techniques, equipment and all necessary technical information about the native Dungeness crab. You’ll learn not only how to crab, but also when and where to crab, how to clean and cook a crab, and finally, how to eat a crab.

The Laviolette family has operated the Jetty since 1979, with Damian and Teah Laviolette taking the reins in September 2018. Over the years, the Laviolettes have expanded the fishery from an RV park and boat rental facility to include live seafood such as Dungeness crabs and fresh local oysters and rental cabins only a few feet from the bay.

Jetty Fishery has been frequently selected as one of the best one-stop destinations for singles, couples and families to take part in crabbing, picnicking, hiking, camping, clamming, fishing, birding and eating some of the best fresh seafood on the West Coast of the United States.

The Jetty Fishery is located on the waters of the Nehalem Bay, less than 10 feet to tide pools, authentic cabled docks and sandy beaches. Just a two-minute boat ride across the Nehalem Bay, and you’ll find yourself on the deserted beaches of the Nehalem Bay State Park. You can comb the beach, relax and read a book in a secluded nest of driftwood, or walk the lovely three-mile peninsula over to the town of Manzanita and have an ice cream cone.
