Buying or selling a home can be an exciting yet overwhelming experience, and that’s where choosing the right real estate agent can make all the difference. HI Now host Jobeth Devera is at Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Hawaii Realty learning how to find that perfect realtor.
“In the age of information, it may be tempting to go it alone. Find the property on the internet, Google any question you might have, but the role of the agent isn’t just finding the home… That’s just the very beginning,” says Co-President Tracy Bradley. “Their biggest job is representing your interests in the transaction while you tend to work, family, vacation, whatever it might be.”
One of the main focuses at Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Hawaii Realty is empowering clients through education. Like a doctor or lawyer, which is widely considered a long-term, if not life-long relationship, ideally you can establish a relationship with a trusted adviser to guide you through your real estate goals and milestones.
“At Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Hawaii Realty, we aim to be forever agents to our clients,” Bradley says. “Taking them through first time home buying, new babies, and all the way to grand babies.”
The real estate agent’s primary goal is to give you the strongest, best representation throughout the process. Their connection to reputable vendors, negotiation skills, contract literacy, management of the timeline and timely and transparent communication are all incredibly important to a smooth transaction.
So what are the most important qualities to look for in a real estate agent? Bradley says open communication and being like-minded top the list.
“You will be working closely with this person to find your future home, and it’s important that they ‘get you,’ and you connect,” she adds.
During your realtor search, make sure you ask these three questions during the interview process:
1. What can I expect in terms of timing on being in my new home?
2. What do you see as the ideal purchase for me?
3. What are your available business hours?
