Craft spirits at PAU Maui Vodka are made from pineapple
Sponsored by Hali’imaile Distillery and Maui Gold Pineapple Farm
What goes into a bottle of vodka? HI Now is taking you inside the Hali’imaile Distilling Company and Maui Gold Pineapple Farm to show you how the partners are making quality craft spirits while minimizing their impact on the environment. Hali`imaile Distilling Company makes vodka, gin, rum, and whiskey, but its flagship brand is PAU Maui Vodka, which HI Now host Kanoe Gibsom got to taste.
In the last 18 months, Maui Gold Pineapple has invested in and focused on planting, improving farming practices, and minimizing its impact on the environment. The farm now uses biodegradable mulch film, so no more plastic in the fields. All farm equipment is powered by biodiesel sourced by sunflowers, and most importantly the company has seen the quality of fruit and the yield per field improve. The company tells HI Now it is excited for the next harvest, which will be the first fruit planted under this new operation.
Maui Gold Pineapple also aims to work with local businesses as much as possible, supporting the island community. Maui Gold pineapples are found across the islands, including in Costco, Maui Grocery stores, online, and in the airport, and supplies hotels and local businesses like Paia Bowls. Maui Gold Pineapple also provides juice to our partners Maui Wine and Maui Brewing Company, with the majority of juice going to Haliimaile Distilling Company
About Hali`imaile Distilling Company:
Hali`imaile Distilling Company makes vodka, gin, rum, and whiskey. PAU Maui Vodka is our flagship brand and is distilled from our pineapples grown across the road at Maui Gold Pineapple Farm. Being made from pineapple is the biggest selling point, but the seed-to-bottle story is just as important. Anyone can visit Maui Gold Pineapple Farm and Hali`imaile Distilling Company and see where the product starts and ends. Hali`imaile Distilling Company believes in transparency and encourages consumers to learn about the process. It is a farm-to-bottle product that is naturally gluten-free with a clean and well-balanced flavor profile that matches the process that creates it.
About Maui Gold Pineapple Farm
Maui Gold Pineapple was founded in 2009 after Maui Pineapple Company shut its doors, but the fields have been in Maui much longer. The current operation is a result of a 2018 acquisition by the LeVecke Corporation. Ultimately the takeover not only saved Maui’s Pineapple tradition but has led to changes and growth.
