Sponsored by Ala Moana Hotel
As a way to honor Hawaii’s high school athletes, ScoringLive will hold its sixth annual Distinguished Athlete Awards Banquet on Saturday, June 8, 2019, at the Ala Moana Hotel.
“We’ve tried to improve on the look and feel of the event with each passing year,” said Brien Ing, founder and lead developer at ScoringLive. “To have the Ala Moana Hotel as both venue and presenting sponsor is quite a big evolution for us.”
Established in 2013, the Distinguished Athlete Awards honors the athletic achievement of more than 20 exceptional Hawaii student athletes at an invitation-only banquet to close out the sports season, set for this year at the Ala Moana Hotel’s Hibiscus Ballroom.
“There wasn’t any formal event that recognized student athlete achievement on an annual basis, so we wanted to create one,” Ing said.
The banquet was developed as a night to gather all the different Players of the Year, from every high school sport covered by ScoringLive, and have them accept an award in front of family and friends. Ing says it’s a unique opportunity to recognize student athletes for their accomplishments over the last year and to have family members actually get to see them up on stage, accepting an award.
All Hawaii Players of the Year in football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, baseball and softball, along with the Newcomer Award winners, are honored for their achievements during the event. The culminating awards of the night are presented to a Distinguished Male and Female Athlete of the Year, selected as top overall in a single sport during the past year.
ScoringLive is a website that was developed to cover high school sports across the state and provide a way for families and student athletes to get access to game stats, sports stories, photos and video and to keep them informed on what was going in the world of high school sports throughout Hawaii.
