Pongo’s Kitchen serves up ono plate lunches with big flavor

Sponsored by Hawaii Gas

It started as a food truck, and now it’s a lunchtime hot spot in Kalihi! HI Now host Kanoe Gibson is with Lia Keawemauhili-Fejeran and Rohan Keawemauhili-Viernes from Pongo’s Kitchen getting a look at some of their signature plate lunches. Today, warm spinach salad is on the menu!

Pongo’s Kitchen and Catering has been serving up delicious food since 1991. While it may be a small hole in the wall, the restaurant has always brought big flavors! Pongo’s prides itself on variety. Whether you’re in the mood for a hearty beef stew plate or something a little more delicate like grilled salmon, there’s something for everyone.

Pongo’s is known for its fresh fish and local favorites including beef stew, hamburger steak, hamburger curry, and its sauces and seasoned butters. “We’re known for our chickens,” Keawemauhili-Viernes says. “Our number one seller is our guava chicken.”

If you’re planning a party, Pongo’s also offers full catering and pans. To order, call ahead five days in advance for full catering, or three days ahead for pans.

Tips before you go:
1) Parking is limited. You can park in the small parking lot next to Pongo’s in front of Ted’s Machine shop or on the street.
2) If you have limited time, we recommend you place a phone order to avoid cooking and line wait time.
3) We almost always sell out of our various chicken entrees such as Sesame Chicken, Guava Chicken, etc. To ensure you get your fix, we recommend you call in your order as early as possible.
