Sponsored by `Ohina Short Film Showcase

Hawaii’s annual `Ohina Short Film Showcase is back this year with a dynamic new lineup of local films. Executive Director Gerard Elmore along with Bryson Chun, one of the featured filmmakers, joined host Jobeth Devera on set to talk more about it.

The Showcase  features five short films produced as part of the 2018 `Ohina Filmmakers Lab will light up the screen at the Hawai`i International Film Festival on November 14 in a special HIFF Presents The `Ohina Shorts Showcase presentation. Among them, Bryson Chun’s Other People – his short script –  won the `Ohina “Greenlight Award” at the Filmmakers Lab, granting him full support to produce and finance his film.

The `Ohina Short Film Showcase is all about celebrating local talent,” said Elmore. “We look forward to the community seeing another incredible lineup. While the Showcase began in 1999 to offer independent filmmakers a platform for their films, `Ohina has since grown to include a media pipeline that’s helping Hawaii’s storytellers bring their visions to the big screen. In 2017, we launched our Filmmakers Lab, providing applicants an opportunity to submit their short screenplays to be mentored by some of the top creative minds in the entertainment industry. These workshops have since become the foundation of our Showcase selections—with participants receiving additional support from `Ohina throughout their journey to completing their films, and a chance for their work to be presented at the `Ohina Short Film Showcase.”
