May Day celebration: Sharing the aloha tradition of lei making

May Day in Hawaii

It’s May Day and one of Hawaii’s most famous symbols of aloha is taking center stage, the lei. For more than 90 years, the City & County of Honolulu’s Department of Parks and Recreation has hosted a free, fun-filled day at Kapi’olani Park with a variety of activities perpetuating the Hawaiian culture. Lei Contest Judge & 2010 Lei Queen Jamie Ka’ohulani Adams Detwiler shows our host Jobeth Devera how to perfect a “wili” lei.
