Whether it’s chilly outside or you’re feeling under the weather, pho is a local favorite that can make anyone feel better. HI Now host Kanoe Gibson is checking out some of the best Vietnamese food on the island at Mama Pho’s newest restaurant at Ala Moana Center.
Pho is beef noodle soup, a dish originating jin Vietnam. What makes the pho so good at Mama Pho? Aside from the secret family recipes, the restaurant only uses the freshest ingredients and makes fresh broth daily using only meat. Chef and owner Denise Chung says you can taste the difference.
Mama Pho is committed to high-quality food, and the restaurant shows it through its homemade bread. It makes all the difference when you’re eating a banh mi sandwich or using a piece to sop up the juices from your bowl! The restaurant is also famous for its Volcano Sauce, something that keeps customers happy and returning again and again. You can even pick up a jar to take home for $4.75!
Although Chung says pho is best eaten at the restaurant, you can also call in your order and pickup by location.
Recipe: Mama Pho Special
Rice noodle, brisket, flank steak, meatball, rare steak, tripe, tendon, white onion, green onion, and a broth of your choice (beef, chicken, or vegetarian)
1) Cook noodles to texture of your liking
2) Place in the bowl and add in your meats and vegetables
3) Pour in boiling hot broth and finish off with some toppings such as bean sprouts, basil, jalapenos, lemon, or sauces (sriracha, hoisin, Mama Pho Volcano sauce, etc.)
