Makana has stayed busy during the pandemic. He dropped a groundbreaking, 20 song instrumental album called A Hawai’i Interlude which combines different kinds of music with slack-key and ukulele. Hip-hop, electronica, cinematic, jazz, and blue grass are just a few of the different styles you can expect to hear. He also performed his song Family on the season opener of Magnum P.I.! Makana was invited by Facebook and Instagram to produce music for the platform, allowing his music to reach places he never thought possible. Through Patreon, Makana has connecting with his fans by teaching ukulele and slack-key guitar.
Makana says that the virtual concert is special because he’ll be performing in the historic Kawaiaha’o Church. Ken Makuakane, legendary Hawaiian music producer, opened the church for Makana and created a beautiful set with Hawaiian flags, kahili, and the famous pipe organ in the background. Accompanied by the amazing acoustics of the church, Makana’s virtual concert will air October 18th at noon on hawaiibookandmusicfestival.com.
“This livestream is incredible. The sound quality, the visuals in Kawaiaha’o Church is just amazing, and I really encourage you guys to tune in,” says Makana. You can also join in on all the offerings that the Hawaii Book and Music Festival has through November 4th.
