100 percent Hawaii-raised lean beef with no added hormones
Sponsored by Made in Hawaii Festival presented by First Hawaiian Bank
The Made in Hawaii Festival is coming up on August 16 – 18, 2019, at the Neal S. Blaisdell Exhibition Hall and Arena. The event showcases food, jewelry, books, and art all made in our islands. HI Now host Jobeth Devera is with Bobby Farias of Kunoa Cattle Company, one of hundreds of exhibitors who will be at the festival, with a sneak peek at what the company has in store.
There’s nothing better than local beef from Hawaii Island! Kunoa offers an assortment of popular beef cuts, including tenderloin, ribeye and brisket as well as ground beef, beef bars and specialty items like beef tongue and marrow bones.
Kunoa’s beef bars are a healthy, portable, shelf-stable snack made with 100 percent Hawaii-raised lean beef with no added hormones or antibiotics. Each bar has 9 grams of protein and is only 50 calories — great fuel for a day of surfing, hiking, biking or running. These bars are available throughout the state and online.
Founded in 2014 by a third-generation Hawaii rancher, Kunoa believes that producing food in the islands and doing it in a way that honors Hawaii’s natural and cultural resources is the result of commitment and collaboration. Today, Kunoa manages over 3,000 cattle across more than 4,000 acres of pastureland on Kauai. The company also offers high-quality livestock processing through Oahu’s only USDA-inspected livestock harvest facility, which it purchased in 2016.
Nearly 90 percent of Hawaii’s food is imported, and Kunoa is helping shift the focus back to local. Kunoa cattle graze on a mix of Hawaii grasses, legumes, fodders and grains, minimizing reliance on imported feedstocks. The livestock facility is designed to mitigate environmental impact and ensure animal health and well-being. Kunoa’s regenerative ranching practices and holistic approach to healthy and sustainable operations drive what they do. The company focuses on healthy land, animals and communities.
Kunoa beef is pasture-raised and natural. Herds graze in pasturelands on Kauai, spending their entire life in Hawaii. While Kunoa raises its own cattle from start to finish on Kauai grasslands, it also partners with dozens of trusted ranchers across Hawaii to source cattle. These relationships support a sustainable ranching environment, preserve open space, and contribute to a healthier ecosystem.
