Kau Kau Grill serves up mouthwatering gourmet plate lunches

Sponsored by Hawaii Gas

Looking for some gourmet plate lunches that are sure to satisfy? Look no further than Kau Kau Grill in Mapunapuna. The hole in the wall eatery may be small, but it’s serving up some big flavors and even bigger plates.

Kau Kau Grill’s Ryan Souza says their two most popular dishes are the Trust Us Special, which includes a heaping helping of garlic shrimp and baby back ribs, and the K Special, fresh spicy ahi and more of those tender barbecue ribs. The restaurant is also known for their Krazy Rice, which is spicy barbecue fried race made with barbecue rib ends.

Kau Kau Grill started as a food truck in 2013 by some local boys who wanted to serve up good, local food. Their restaurant is now located in Mapunapuna, which is open from 10 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., Monday – Saturday. Their mission? “To make people sleep on their lunch breaks,” Souza jokes. “We just like to serve our customers good, quality local products and just give them a good time at Kau Kau Grill.” The restaurant uses fresh ahi and fresh produce daily in all of its dishes.

“We serve pretty high-quality plate lunches. You can’t get them anywhere else,” Souza says. In addition to their full menu, Kau Kau Grill also offers different specials throughout the week, including lechon, crispy panko baked chicken, hamburger steak, mushroom chicken, and roast pork.
