HI Now Host Kainoa Carlson is on Maui to sample plate lunches from local family-owned restaurant Kalei’s Lunchbox. The restaurant serves traditional Hawaiian favorites with their own signature “restaurant flair.”

Owners Francyne and Aaron Heath aim to infuse the Hawaiian value of ‘ohana into everything they do. This, they say, is what makes the restaurant special. In fact, the Heath children also work to keep the restaurant running smoothly.
“We are, from beginning to end, ‘ohana,” said Francyne Heath. “It’s a team. Kalei’s will take care of you all the way.”
During the pandemic, Kalei’s knew it had to reach out to the Maui community and provide as much support as possible. They began reducing their prices for one day a week to ensure that all families would be able to eat. Eventually, they reduced prices for four days a week.
