Flavor of the December: Gingerbread House
There’s a sweet and flakey French pastry that’s a holiday favorite and La Tour Café bakes them fresh daily. Kouign Amann (pronounced QUEEN-ah-mahn) is made with croissant dough, roughly half butter and half yeast. It’s a scrumptious treat that’s layered with sugar just before it goes into the oven, so it develops a thick, caramelized crust. HI Now host Jobeth Devera went to the bakery to see how they are made.
For the month of December, La Tour Cafe is featuring a special flavor of the month: Gingerbread House. It’s a ginger snap stuffed kouign amann with a molasses glaze, topped with gum drops and white peppermint bark. Customers can buy any 12 kouign amanns and get one free.
