Jessica Pagtulingan: Hawaii Education Association honors Hawaii’s exceptional teachers

Helping every student reach the finish line

Sponsored by Hawaii Education Association

The Hawaii Education Association (HEA) is celebrating its 100-year anniversary in 2021 by sharing stories of exceptional teachers in our community. HI Now host Kainoa Carlson spoke with Jessica Pagtulingan at Queen Kaʻahumanu Elementary School who happens to be one of those exceptional teachers.

Pagtulingan is currently a fifth-grade teacher. She was inspired to become an educator by her sixth-grade teacher who taught her to truly value each student’s individuality and to help every student reach the finish line. Pagtulingan participated in HEA’s Teaching As A Career (TAAC) program at Farrington High School, which encourages high school students to explore and foster their interest in teaching as a career.

HEA’s scholarships are made possible by donations from community members who care about advancing education in Hawaii.
