Hidden away in windward Oahu, you’ll find a cocktail bar and restaurant with a secret entrance inside a phone booth! HI Now host Kainoa Carlson is with Assistant General Manager Clark Dean to get the inside scoop on Gaslamp in Kailua.

When it comes to Gaslamp, people usually find out about the speakeasy by word of mouth. The restaurant features swanky jazz from its saxophonist, and provides a classy atmosphere with exquisite cocktails. In terms of food, Gaslamp is a steak and chop house with an abundance of seafood options and European appetizers.

Gaslamp’s executive chef also joins Dean in the HI Now kitchen to plate some of the speakeasy’s signature dishes. Those include sea scallops with Siberian caviar with a sweet and spicy aioli glaze on top, a Maui Cattle beef filet and a cremini mushroom sauce with asparagus. Finally, there’s also an opakapaka with edamame mashed potatoes and an Okinawan sweet potato succotash.

“A lot of tableside presentations, namely the Japanese Wagyu Tomahawk, very popular among the peak clientele, the seafood tower,” Dean lists. “Definitely a lot of impressionable platings to be enjoyed.”

You can also enjoy live jazz music at Gaslamp Thursday through Saturday! The ambiance makes for a perfect date night or place to celebrate a special occasion.

You can’t have a speakeasy without beautiful craft cocktails, so Beverage Director Mike Ihara also dropped into the kitchen to demonstrate some of Gaslamp’s specialty cocktails. If you’re looking for something with a lighter taste, try the “Rose Colored Lenses,” garnished with some edible flowers. Or, if you’re a whiskey lover, order “A Man’s Compass,” a more liquor-heavy cocktail.
