Kanileʻa ʻUkulele is known for its beautifully hand crafted musical instruments. HI Now host Kanoe Gibson is with Production Manager Kaimana Souza at the company’s facility in Kāneʻohe with a special surprise: The pair will be creating a custom HI Now Kanileʻa ʻUkulele!
The process starts by dropping the custom inlay on the HI Now Kanileʻa ʻUkulele. While a laser cuts each of the pieces, attention to detail is key, so the edges of each are cleaned with a knife. An epoxy is used to set the pieces, a sander smooths it out, and then the soundboard is ready for assembly and finish.
Souza explains that a curly Maple and a contrasting Koa will be used for the inlay of the HI Now Kanileʻa ʻUkulele, which will pop beautifully on the soundboard.
