The HI Now Live music series continues Thursday, July 11, 2019, at 6 p.m. featuring up-and-coming local band City Boys at Shirokiya Japan Village Walk at Ala Moana Center.

In 2018, City Boys released their first single, “This Girl.” The three men who make up the group, Ulima “Brandon” Luamanu, Puka Tatupu and Salesi Fifita-Atkins are all graduates of McKinley High School and have been singing with each other for as long as they can remember. “It’s awesome that we’re all still together,”  Fifita-Atkins says, “working towards a dream of making music our life.”

Prior to City Boys, Fifita-Atkins worked a federal job for about 10 years until 2017 when he decided to do music full-time. “I’m very fortunate to have been able to walk away from that job and pursue music with people I consider family,” he says.

The group’s motto is to live, love and serve not only through music, but also through their actions while on earth. “On this musical journey, I hope to inspire people to be who they are and never be afraid to do that,” Luamanu says.

Along with reggae and culture-based music, the local band was also influenced by golden oldies, hip-hop and R&B, making the City Boys who they are today. “Music has always been a blessing in my life growing up in Lanakila housing,” Tatupu says. Through their music, the group hopes to inspire people from all walks of life to be generous and positive.

The group also just released their newest single, “The Glove.”
