Taking the stage with a Broadway cast
There’s still time to see Cameron Mackintosh’s spectacular new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera! While the Broadway musical hit has been in town, HI Now hosts Jobeth Devera and Kanoe Gibson got the experience of a lifetime by making a special appearance during the show.
After signing in, the pair donned wigs and tiaras in their very own dressing room as they prepared for their walk-on roles. It was time to get into character as opera box guests! The hosts also joined the cast onstage during the curtain call, to practice their curtsies and got to meet the Phantom, Christine, and Raoul!
“It’s going to be a phenomenal, phenomenal show, and I can’t wait to bow with you at the end,” Derrick Davis, the Phantom himself, told the ladies.
For Jobeth and Kanoe, this opportunity is a dream come true. The Phantom of the Opera was the first musical Devera saw with her mom in New York when she was 15 years old. “It was in that moment that I fell in love with the show and all of Broadway, really,” Devera said. “Anytime anybody asks me, ‘What’s your dream job?’ I always say, ‘it’s to be on Broadway,'” Gibson says. She says the first time she saw the opening scene of The Phantom of the Opera, she cried her eyes out. It was an emotional night for the two hosts to say the least!
The Phantom of the Opera will be at the Blaisdell Concert Hall through September 1! To purchase tickets, go to broadwayinhawaii.com or ticketmaster.com, call (808) 768-5252 or visit the Blaisdell Box Office in Honolulu. Ticket prices start at $30 (plus applicable fees).
