A look inside Hale Kūʻike's Nu'uanu location
Sponsored by Hale Kūʻike
Hale Kūʻike specializes in delivering the finest memory care. The experts at the care home know that each person living with dementia is unique, and it’s reflected in the care they offer. HI Now host Kanoe Gibson is getting a tour of the Nu’uanu location to see how the staff is raising the standard in memory care.
Hale Kūʻike’s first location in Nu’uanu has been operating with great success since 2005. Located in a quiet cul-de-sac, its single-level building features a lush central courtyard, wide walking paths, and raised garden beds. The freedom to go outdoors and interact with nature is an important part of life and health. This is especially true for people with dementia who face so many limitations to their freedom and abilities.
With Hale Kūʻike’s highly trained staff, this is round-the-clock care you can count on. Nursing assistants provide overnight care and monitoring, while registered nurses are onsite during the day and available on-call after hours. To deliver the finest in memory care, the care home adheres to the Positive Approach® to Care (PAC) training curriculum. Its Certified PAC Trainers, PAC Coaches and Engagement Leaders, all work together to provide on-going, hands-on dementia education and skill-building for staff members in all departments.
Each staff member is trained to understand the experience of memory loss and to focus on residents’ strengths. By building strong, lasting relationships with each resident, the staff can create personalized solutions that serve residents best.
Nu’uanu residents and staff enjoy the loving companionship of two live-in service animals: Cookie, the Havanese, and Mimi, the tabby cat.
Hale Kūʻike also hosts Brain Health workshops at all three of its locations. These workshops are free and open to the public. You can sign up at HaleKuike.com.
