Get peace of mind while expecting through HMAA’s Baby & Me program

Participants get a free BabyBeat doppler rental

Sponsored by HMAA

When you’re pregnant, you constantly worry about your baby. Is he or she healthy? How are they doing in there? So many questions go through your head! As part of a unique maternity program in Hawaii, HMAA has partnered with Baby Beat to offer a fetal doppler rental as part of its Baby & Me Program.

A fetal doppler allows you to listen and track your baby’s heartbeat from home. Listening to your baby’s heartbeat is exciting, but for some parents it’s essential. This is especially true when there are concerns about decreased fetal movement. Being able to track your baby’s heart rate at home can help get you through those restless nights and avoid unnecessary and expensive trips to the emergency room. This machine isn’t just helpful for medical purposes, as being able to listen to your baby with family and other siblings is a great way to create a bond with baby before birth, and it provides your family with a unifying experience most do not have the opportunity to experience outside of the doctor’s office.

Luckily for HMAA members, the partnership with BabyBeat provides moms with a free 6-month rental of a physician-grade doppler when they enroll in the Baby & Me program.

The average fetal heart rate is between 110 and 160 beats per minute. It can vary by 5 to 25 beats per minute. The fetal heart rate may change as your baby responds to conditions in your uterus. An abnormal fetal heart rate may mean that your baby is not getting enough oxygen or that there are other problems. If you find that your baby’s heart rate is outside of this norm, contact your physician to discuss your concern. Program participants can also address non-emergent questions they may have about fetal heart rate with their maternity program nurses.

The dopplers are physician-grade machines. BabyBeat’s doppler ultrasound devices are manufactured in the USA and are regulated by the FDA. Years of studies have shown no harmful effects on the fetus from these units. Studies show, “In 30 years of regular use, no adverse effects have ever been demonstrated from ultrasound testing.”

HMAA members who enroll in the Baby & Me program will get instructions on how to get the doppler from BabyBeat’s website. Once you select your doppler, you just use the provided promo code at checkout and the doppler will be mailed to you at no charge.

The promo code will cover a 6-month rental period. Since the doppler is not beneficial for at home use during the first trimester, HMAA recommends members wait until around 15 weeks to place their order. The doppler will also come with the gel and all parts required for use.

When you are ready to return your doppler after the 6-month period, just use the return label included in the original package and send it back. It’s that easy!
