There’s a new donut in town! Originally from Kauai, Holey Grail Donuts is the latest donut trend to hit Honolulu. You won’t be able to miss the bright yellow food truck in Kakaako, as the line often stretches around the corner! HI Now host Kainoa Carlson dropped by to try some donuts for himself.

Home of the original taro donut, Holey Grail Donuts was founded by brother and sister team, Nile and Hana Dreiling, in early 2018. It began as a “Sunday Ritual” out of a little red hamburger trailer in Hanalei on the island of Kauai. This ritual quickly developed a cultish following which led to over 45 minute waits, live DJ’s, and people lining up at 6:30 a.m. on a Sunday to try the donuts. The siblings started with a $100 fryer, a reincarnated” donut, and a quest to create the worlds most delicious donut experience.

“My sister and I sought out to essentially capture Hawaii in a donut,” says Nile Dreiling. “Essentially, the premise of the company is to collaborate with local farmers and our surrounding community to create the best quality donuts you could ever imagine.”

Dreiling says now seems like a better time than ever to bring some joy to the community with everyone’s favorite sweet: Donuts! The food truck cranks out Instagram-worthy donuts that are made-to-order and fried in organic coconut oil.

“We take an ingredient approach,” explains Dreilling. “Instead of creating recipes and then sourcing the ingredients, we actually go around and see what sort of ingredients we can find seasonally and locally and then develop based off those partnerships with farms.”

Holey Grail Donuts has nearly 60 flavors, and the team there is constantly creating more as they find and source new ingredients. Join the following on Instagram @holeygraildonuts to see when and where you can catch the truck in Kakaako!
