November is Veterans and Military Families month

If you miss going to concerts or listening to live music, this is for you! On Saturday, November 28, AARP Hawai`i and the State Office of Veterans Services are putting on a free virtual concert featuring award-winning musician Henry Kapono. It’s in honor of National Veterans and Military Families Month and open to the public. HI Now host Kanoe Gibson got to speak with the musician ahead of the concert.
Kapono is a performer who has it all – vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, composer, thrilling performer, audience favorite— and multiple honors and awards, including a Grammy nomination. He has taken home 18 Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards (Hawaii’s”Grammy”) including Male Vocalist of the Year, Song of the Year, Single of the Year, Album of the Year, Rock Album of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Award, Best EP (for THE ROUGH RIDERS with fellow Hawaii artists John Cruz & Brother Noland) and Compilation of the Year in 2019 for “The Songs of C&K.”
To register and get a Zoom link for the free concert, all you have to do is go to AARP.org/HI or the AARP Hawai`i Facebook page and click on “Upcoming Events” to see all of AARP’s virtual offerings.
Those who register for the concert can enter a drawing for $100 grocery gift certificates. Five winners will be selected at random at the end of the concert. The contest is limited to legal residents or citizens of the United States living in Hawai`i, 18 years and older. No purchase is necessary, and you must be watching the concert to win and indicate your acceptance in the Zoom chat or Facebook Live comments. A link to the contest rules is available as part of the registration process. Winners will be contacted by telephone and email to confirm where to send the prize.
