Family recipes turn into must-try dishes at Buzz’s Original Steak House

A day at the beach will make you hungry, and if you’re in Kailua, why not drop by Buzz’s Original Steak House to satisfy that craving? HI Now host Kanoe Gibson is trying some of the iconic restaurant’s most popular appetizers always made with love and aloha.

“Although we’re obviously a steak house, our appetizers are also kind of what we’re really know for,” says Tahiti Huetter with Buzz’s Original Steak House. Being that the restaurant is family-owned, many of these dishes come from recipes passed down from grandmas and uncles.

“Everything that we make is homemade. All of our dressings, sauces,” Huetter says. “Everything is really our own and has a lot of rich family history.”

One dish you must try? The calamari steak. While it may be unusual, it’s a dish Huetter says hooks many who come to the restaurant. “This is actually like a flank of steak that we panko with a lemon beurre blanc sauce.” The secret? The sauce. “That’s usually what hooks people back in.” Buzz’s actually serves up about 500 pounds of calamari a month.

The restaurant’s Artichoke Surprise is another popular pick, and it’s served with a homemade garlic butter and a heaping helping of Parmesan cheese. Buzz’s also serves an ahi ceviche. The dish isn’t always available, so if it’s on the menu, act quickly! It comes with a mix of ahi, papaya, avocado, and tomato which is then layered with fresh herbs. This recipe comes from the restaurant’s founder!

Buzz’s Original Steak House is open for lunch daily from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Get drinks and pupus from 3 – 9:30 p.m., or enjoy dinner from 4:30 – 9:30 p.m. every day. For reservations, just call 808-262-4661
