Experience Portland’s food cart scene at Cartopia

Variety of fare from lunch to a late-night feast

If you’re traveling to Portland, you must make a stop for some street food. The city has hundreds of food carts that gather in pods where you can grab a quick bite or get some friends together to feast and sample a bit of everything! HI Now host Kanoe Gibson is checking out the offerings at Cartopia, a downtown food cart pod.

“The food cart scene here is crazy, there’s food carts everywhere,” says Michael Triptow, general manager of Chicken and Guns, a food cart at Cartopia. “You get a little taste of everything.”

Craving some wings? Chicken and Guns offers wood fired chicken and its signature “guns,” crispy potatoes with lemon sea salt topped with pickled onions and aji sauce. At Pyro Pizza, get fresh thin crust pies accompanied by tasty drinks from Portland Craft Sodas. For all things potatoes, don’t miss the delicious poutines from Potato Champion. For those looking to grab a drink with their meal, in addition to burgers and tater tots, Bottle Rocket provides beer and wine.

Whether you’re visiting in the summer or winter, Cartopia is a great place to check out with a number of food carts to try. Once you’ve got your food, there are tables all around for you and your group to sit down and chow down near fire pits that come in hand during the winter. “In the summertime, it’s all day every day. There’s hundreds of people that come in and out of here,” Triptow says. There are also more tables beneath a tent in the center of the food carts where you’ll find heated seating.

“All the carts are working together,” Triptow says about the cart pod. “It’s kind of become like a little family here at Cartopia.”
