Looking for a fun activity to add to your weekend getaway on Kauai? Look no further than one of the island's newest and hottest attractions -- the Rum Safari at the Kilohana Plantation! HI Now host Jobeth Devera is on the Garden Isle going on the tour.
Sponsored by Kauai Visitors Bureau
The Kauai Rum Safari is a two-hour guided tour within the 105 acres of the plantation. Guests can sip on some award-winning Koloa Rum, enjoy signature Mai Tais, meet and interact with farm animals and have a fresh cocktail made with fruits and herbs grown right there on the plantation. You’ll even learn about the history of rum in Hawaii and what makes Koloa Rum so good!
The open-air safari trucks take you into beautiful fruit orchards where you will see exotic fruits like lychee, longan, cashew and mango. Later in the tour, you might even taste some of these fruits in your farm-to-glass cocktail! As the tour passes through Elmer’s Farm, you will also get a first-hand look at the papaya and assortment of veggies growing in the fields before they are sold at the local farmers market.
Then, hold on tight as the tour heads down into Kahuna Nui Valley! There you will disembark for a stroll on a boardwalk through a tropical rainforest to your private oasis where you will taste various flavors of Koloa Rum. After the rum tasting, try a signature Mai Tai sweetened with freshly-picked raw sugarcane.
The tour doesn’t end there! Your guide will take you to meet a herd of wild pigs, goats, and sheep. For those feeling adventurous, you can also feed and interact with the friendly animals. Take a minute to look around and enjoy the scenery. Your knowledgeable guide will fill you in on the past and present history of agriculture on Kauai.
One of the longest-cultivated crops grown in Hawaii is taro, and this was the main staple of the Hawaiian people. At the end of the tour, guests are taken to the Loi Lanai where a mixologist will whip up a farm-to-glass cocktail that will knock your socks off! Today, Jobeth is trying out the Koloa Rum Starfruit Lemonade. It’s a drink made entirely from fruits and herbs grown on the plantation — and it doesn’t get any fresher than that! Take pictures, meet new friends and leave your worries behind!
The Kauai Rum Safari is open every day with departures at 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 4 p.m.
