Celebrate National Pancake Day with Moke’s Bread & Breakfast

The lilikoi pancakes are a local staple!

This year, National Pancake Day falls on September 26, so HI Now host Kainoa Carlson is celebrating with a specialty from Moke’s Bread & Breakfast! The restaurant is known for its lilikoi pancakes and has also just launched a new evening menu at its Kaimuki location.

“This is our famous lilikoi pancakes. The pancake recipe itself is actually my grandma’s recipe, so I grew up eating this,” says restaurant owner Keola Warren. “The lilikoi sauce that goes on top, you know, real nice tart flavor. So it’s not too sweet — not overly sugary. Makes you want to just keep going back for more!”

In 2004, Chef Moké Warren and his wife Teri opened the original Moké’s Bread & Breakfast in Kailua. Today, there’s now a second location in Kaimuki.

“We just launched our evening menu in Kaimuki, so just kind of some local favorites and things we put together that we thought people would really enjoy,” Warren explains.

On the dinner menu, you’ll find dishes like seared ahi, shrimp salad, and the restaurant’s best seller so far, a miso mushroom swiss burger! COVID-19 has made this a truly difficult time for restaurants and small businesses, and Warren says the new menu is an effort to innovate in order to survive.

“We’re really trying to do as much as we can, reach as many people, and take new ideas and run with them,” he says. “So this is what we decided to go with.”

Moke’s Bread & Breakfast offers take out, curbside pickup and delivery. Call the Kailua location to order at (808) 261-5565 or the Kaimuki location at (808) 367-0571. You can even order Moke’s through DoorDash and Bite Squad.
