Best Buddies in Hawai’i will host the Best Buddies Friendship Walk on May 8, 2021. The event will feature both in-person and virtual options so that everyone can participate! The Best Buddies Friendship Walk is the latest life-changing movement. Since 2009, more than 250,000 participants have walked in over 60 cities and raised more than $24 million for Best Buddies.
Each year, nearly 300 participants lace up their shoes to walk for inclusion. This year, participants are working to surpass a fundraising goal of $30,000. Opening ceremonies and t-shirt pickup begin at 8 a.m. at two locations on O’ahu and two locations on Maui. Registrants are invited to walk a safe, socially distant lap or two after pickup, or they can return to their neighborhoods to walk there. In addition, they can join Best Buddies on Facebook Live to watch the Best Buddies in Hawai’i ‘ohana share how they walk for inclusion.
Best Buddies welcomes participation from everyone throughout the community based on how they feel most comfortable. Virtual participation is open for individuals and teams who prefer to join on walk day from their own favorite path or course. Proceeds from the Friendship Walk are fundamental in supporting state programs that provide one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development and inclusive living. These programs can be found in all 50 states and will create promising opportunities for more than 350,000 people this year.
