Vintage Hawaiian shirts from the 1940-50's
Sponsored by Made in Hawaii Festival presented by First Hawaiian Bank
The aloha shirt is a staple in Hawaii, and Avanti Hawaiian shirts celebrate the past in authentic patterns that recall the nostalgic heyday of Hawaii’s most famous product. Avanti will be at the Made in Hawaii Festival August 16-18, 2019, at the Neal S. Blaisdell Exhibition Hall and Arena.
“I think we offer a different perspective on aloha wear,” says Vincent Hui, director of operations
Avanti’s vintage shirts inspired by original classics from the 1940’s and 1950’s are “postcards of paradise.” They show old Hawaii scenes, flowers and points of interest in original patterns, prints and bright tropical colors and styles. The retro aloha shirts are for today’s connoisseur or collector who wants to wear a unique piece of art from the Hawaiian Islands.
“My parents started Avanti in the International Market Place and swap meet,” Hui says. The kiosk sold things like leather purses, jewelry, scarves, and belts until they came upon washable silk, which was very popular at the time. “Eventually, a customer suggested that they start making vintage-inspired Hawaiian shirts, and so that’s how we got started with Avanti.”
Avanti offers aloha wear for men, women, and children. “All of our cotton and rayon fabrics are cut and sewn here in Hawaii,” says Hui. However, he explains that Avanti is still known even today for its high-quality silk fabrics.
“We love the history behind the aloha shirt, and we want to bring that to the modern consumer.” In addition to its vintage collection, Avanti also offers a collection of modern aloha shirts. These offer a more tailored fit along with colors and styles that are more approachable for the modern man.
At the Made in Hawaii Festival, Avanti will be showcasing its new walk shorts, made in Hawaii and perfect for the summer season. You can also get 20 percent off on everything at its booth!
