American Savings Bank shares ways you can give back this holiday season

Give time, talent, or treasure

With the holidays just around the corner, one of the greatest gifts you can give is a gift to someone in need. Giving back doesn’t necessarily mean giving money, as it can mean giving your time or talent, too. American Savings Bank (ASB) shares a few different ways you can give back this holiday season.

American Savings Bank breaks down giving back into three categories: Time, talent and treasure. If you’re short on cash this holiday season, consider donating time or talent. Seek out volunteer opportunities where you can spend a few hours helping an organization in need. You can even offer your talent! Maybe you play an instrument and can join a Christmas chorus visit, or perhaps you are great at crafting and can help wrap presents for a social services organization. With treasure, donating money always helps, but you can also consider donating items such as toys, clothing and household items.

American Savings Bank believes that giving back can take place all year round, but the holidays are a great time to start. Many people have holiday potlucks, festivities and traditions they celebrate during this time of year, but that’s also a reminder that not everyone is as fortunate. For parents, aunties, uncles and grandparents, the holidays can be a perfect time to introduce the gift of giving back to keiki.

It’s always helpful to have an overall budget for all of your holiday spending. Include gifts, donations, activities and special meals to keep track of your expenses throughout the season. American Savings Bank offers a Holiday Savings account, which allows you to save up money in a separate account throughout the year. The money becomes available every November, so it really is set aside just for the holidays. The bank also has a whole team of bankers available to talk to people about budgeting over the holidays. Just stop by one of its branches to get some help!
