A look for every body type: Designer Allison Izu dresses you for your shape

Sponsored by Allison Izu

Hawaii fashion designer Allison Izu designs for all women and wants to help each person look and feel their best. To do this, Izu uses the letters of her name – A L L I S O N – to create a universal system for body typing based on common body shapes. HI Now host Jobeth Devera is at the designer’s Ala Moana boutique to learn about the “O” and “N” body types.

The Allison Izu brand is a collection of elevated basics, designed for fit and function for the modern woman. Izu encourages women to #LiveYourLetter as a convenient way to shop her line and to find the perfect fit while feeling empowered to be their most authentic selves.

Izu explains that “O” body types have smaller shoulders and legs, with a fuller midsection. To accentuate the body, she suggests looking for wider draped tops to minimize and flatter the area. From her line, Izu recommends trying the Misa Tops. It has a flowy body so it doesn’t touch the midsection, and it’s long to accentuate a straight silhouette. For bottoms, she recommends the Kiki Pant, which has a forgiving elastic waistband. It’s also the perfect length to elongate the body.

The “N” body type has a wider back and shoulder area with narrower hips and slim legs. For this body type, Izu recommend tops with a longer hem like the Mandy ¾ sleeve top. In terms of sleeves, she suggests something more fitted to minimize the shoulders and even out the body. She pairs it with her Sunrise Pants to add dimension to the leg area.

Izu holds Live Your Letter styling seminars to help people to understand their body types. The group styling events are a great way to get styled in a social setting with friends. Izu begins each event by hosting a discussion, then she and her styling team are on hand to give tips while you shop.

The next styling event will be at the Kaimuki boutique on Thursday, June 6, from 6 – 8 p.m. and another at the Ala Moana boutique on Friday, June 7, from 10 a.m.- 12 p.m.
