Giving students a greater awareness of multicultural social work practice
Sponsored by Hawai’i Pacific University
The mission of Hawai’i Pacific University’s School of Social Work is to prepare qualified students, especially working adults, for entry into the competent, ethical, and effective practice of advanced generalist social work. Utilizing critical thinking and building upon our diverse environment, Hawai’i Pacific University’s social work students strive to enhance the social well-being of all people; provide leadership in culturally competent services at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels; advocate for social and economic justice locally, nationally, and globally; and promote multiculturalism through furthering social work knowledge.
The university’s social work program prepares students for social practice in a variety of ways — from micro-skills to macro-skills. It helps give students a greater awareness and understanding of multicultural social work practice that’s a true core-value of the social work program, demonstrated in practice. The program allows students to shape their experiences to whatever is of interest of the student. Smaller class sizes allow for faculty and students to build a stronger relationship and familiarity.
About Hawaii Pacific University:
Hawaii Pacific University is a private, nonprofit university on the Hawaiian island of O’ahu. The campuses in downtown Honolulu and at the foot of the Ko’olau Mountains on the windward side of the island enable students to enjoy the best of both worlds; a vibrant, international city and a stunningly-beautiful, tropical setting. And with students and faculty from around the world, it is one of the most culturally-rich, private universities in the U.S.
Fusing this unmatched cultural diversity with personal support and a deliberately intimate learning environment, HPU enables students to get up-close and personal with the subjects they’re most passionate about. And when they do, when they look closer, they are empowered to see further and to do more. It’s how the institution ensures its graduates enter a competitive global workplace market-ready.
