Closing the gap for Dementia Care in Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islander Populations

Sponsored by Hawaii Pacific Neuroscience

HONOLULU (HI Now) - Despite Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders (NHPI) especially those with low social economic status are at an increased risk for Alzheimer’s disease. They are often underdiagnosed, undertreated, less well managed and have less access to care especially advanced clinical trial research options. It is therefore Hawaii Pacific Neuroscience’s goal and kuleana to engage, promote, inspire, mentor and invest in the next generations of clinicians and scientists, residents and students in promoting research in underserved minority populations, and lower the barriers to access to care and representation in clinical trials. Hawaii Pacific Neuroscience is particularly excited to partner with the Dept. Native Hawaiian Health to collaborate “laulima” together.
