Sponsored by Hawai’i Symphony Orchestra

HONOLULU (HI Now) - The Hawai’i Symphony Orchestra presents a selection of classical and festive concert experiences as we head into the holiday season.

On Dec. 10, the Hawai’i Symphony Orchestra kicks off the holiday season with Grammy-nominated producer, singer-songwriter, and recording artist, Kimié Miner, for its next installment of the HapaSymphony Series at Hawaii Theatre. Kimié's music transcends genre as she seeks to create sounds that are reflective of her native Hawaiian and Portuguese roots. Featuring music from her 2022 Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award winning album for EP of the Year, “Christmas in Hawai’i,” the HSO invites ‘ohana from all over the island for the music of the season that brings joy, hope, comfort, and peace in ways that are unique to Hawai’i.

On Dec. 11, piano prodigy Harmony Zhu – the youngest ever winner of the Juilliard Concerto Competition – will perform the virtuosic Piano Concerto of Clara Schumann at Hawaii Theatre. Also on the program, Earl Lee – the most recent recipient of the prestigious Sir George Solti Conducting Award – will lead the HSO in the Fourth Symphony of Johannes Brahms.

A family holiday favorite, the Hawai’i Symphony Orchestra will present Disney’s “The Muppet Christmas Carol in Concert” featuring a screening of the complete film with the musical score performed live to the film. Screenings will be held Dec. 16 & 17, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. & Dec. 18, 2022 at 4 p.m. at Hawaii Theatre. The Muppets perform the classic Charles Dickens holiday tale, with Kermit the Frog playing Bob Cratchit, the put-upon clerk of stingy Ebenezer Scrooge (Michael Caine). Gonzo, as Dickens, narrates the story with the help of Rizzo the Rat. The film also features Miss Piggy as Emily Cratchit, Fozzie Bear as Fozziwig, and Robin the Frog as Tiny Tim.
