As the state of Hawaii faces challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, Hawaii Gas wants to assure its customers that we expect to have continued access to gas energy for their cooking and heating needs. As the state’s only gas utility, Hawaii Gas has a long history of being part of Hawaii’s emergency management response team and remains focused on maintaining reliable gas service as well as following CDC recommended protocols for the safety of its employees, customers and community.
“Hawaii’s major industries depend on Hawaii Gas, says Vice President of Operations Kevin Nishimura. “Gas is essential for first responders and hospitals. Gas is also used by hotels, restaurants, laundry facilities, the military, the agriculture sector.
As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, Hawaii Gas has upheld its commitment to ensure that hospitals and first responders have the supply of gas that they need. That has always been the company’s commitment during natural disasters, and this situation is no different.
“We are continuing to make regular deliveries of propane to residential customers who are staying home from work or school and using gas for cooking or hot water,” Nishimura says. “We also supply propane dispensers like local hardware stores that sell propane tanks for BBQ grills.”
The company recognizes the financial hardships associated with the coronavirus pandemic and wants to help remove the worry customers may have about losing access to gas during these challenging times. To assist customers who are financially impacted by COVID-19 and unable to pay their gas bill, Hawaii Gas will not be interrupting their gas service through April 30, 2020. This special allowance period may be extended depending on the situation at that time.
Customers who are experiencing financial difficulties are encouraged to call the Hawaii Gas Customer Care Team to discuss payment plan options. The Customer Care team can be reached by phone Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm at the following numbers:
